The Freedom to Make Sense (Make Sense) is a groundbreaking collaborative research project funded by the Icelandic Research Council that examines the question, “How can we, both individually and collectively, find our bearings and think freely?” Spearheaded by the University of Iceland and the Iceland University of the Arts, Make Sense aims to revolutionize how we learn and solve problems, ultimately seeking to establish a research and training center. Through five training modules, pilot studies, think tanks, and workshops, Make Sense will deliver practical tools such as a training program, a MOOC, and groundbreaking insights into embodied thinking and learning.

LAB:SYNC is delighted to collaborate on the Make Sense project, and the initiative includes contributions from over 20 institutions worldwide. Among its collaborators is Dr. Aston K. McCullough, assistant professor at Northeastern University, alongside researchers from University of Virginia, Heidelberg University Psychiatric Hospital, Wageningen University & Research, Aarhus University, University of Toronto, Kansai University, University of Ljubljana, University of Seattle, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, l’Institut Mines-Télécom Business School, University of Limerick, University of Applied Sciences Jena, Kaichi International University, University of Groningen, the University of Leuven, Center for Sustainable Economic and Corporate Policy in Darmstadt,  Macquarie University, and the University of Iceland. This diverse team will develop mindful methods of philosophical and artistic practice to address the complex and rapidly evolving crises within and beyond academia, fostering innovative approaches to thinking.
